Chase your shadow and it will flee.

— the Slimepedia

Shadow Slimes are a type of slime found in the Grey Labyrinth. They are black as the night and have white facial features.

Shadow Plorts are necessary for unlocking Shadow Plort Doors within the Grey Labyrinth and 1000 total are required to open all 19 of them. Shadow Plorts can also be sold at the Plort Market and placed in The Refinery just like any other plort.

Slimepedia Entry[]

Slimeology:
Shadow slimes are found within the dark corners of the Grey Labyrinth and other places where they are safe from prismatic disruptions. They are an unusual and unique slime, clustering together in erratic groups and quickly fleeing from the slightest provocation, almost vanishing in thin air. It's unknown if they were created as a part of the Labyrinth or some kind of evolution against the prismatic effects within it.

Rancher Risks:
Shadow slimes present no immediate threat to a rancher, however they will flee the moment they are spotted, perhaps accidentally falling headlong into the cloudy abyss of the Labyrinth as you desperately try to snag their plorts is a risk.

Plortonomics:
The umbral aura of a shadow slime's plort, like the slime itself, has a natural dampening effect against the prismatic energies that radiate through the Labyrinth and all of Rainbow Island. Those that manage to find this rare creature would do well to master acquiring their plorts as they will likely prove essential for solving the Labyrinth's many puzzles and peril.

Behaviors[]

Shadow Slimes are similar to Gold Slimes as they cannot be stored in the Vacpack, cannot be eaten by Tarrs, will produce a plort if shot with any item (this item will not disappear or be consumed by the slime and instead will bounce off and may be collected again), and will disappear a few moments after being disturbed.

Shadow Slimes spawn in groups of 2-5. Undisturbed Shadow Slimes will sit motionless with a neutral expression, and upon being approached or having an item shot at them, will assume a smile similar to a well-fed slime and begin to jump erratically. After a few seconds in this state, they will vanish. If left undisturbed for more than a few minutes, they will eventually despawn.
