Saber Slimes are carnivorous slimes introduced with the Song of Sabers update. They are the fourth feline-based slime introduced, after the Tabby Slimes, Lucky Slimes, and Hunter Slimes.
Slimepedia Entry[]
Slimeology:
Once believed to be long extinct or only existing as distant, feral descendants, saber slimes have been discovered on a mysterious glacier off the coast of Rainbow Island. And after being trapped in ice for ages, these saber slimes have awoken with dinosaur sized appetites! One of the fiercest predators during the Jellassic Period of the Far, Far Range, saber slimes still exhibit an extreme agility that makes them highly adept at hunting their favorite food, the elusive thundercluck. They can often be found bouncing off the sheer walls, slippery glaciers, and soaring ice spires of their snowy home.
Rancher Risks:
Saber slimes will sometimes give a fearsome roar to startle competitors for food. Slime scientists agree that this is their way of calling 'dibs' on a meal. They'll also roar just to let other slimes know they're around, like a mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex announcing its presence in a primordial jungle of old... just like, maybe 100 times smaller, and squishier.
Plortonomics:
Saber plorts are collected for their historical value, offering a window into the primitive past of the Far, Far Range. Some slime scientists have tried to extract the slime DNA from these plorts in order to recreate a Jellassic giant saber slime, but all have failed. And honestly, that's probably for the better, because as soon as that happens some charming billionaire would be talking about making a whole theme park to view them in captivity and then...
Tips[]
Saber Gordo, concealing a link back to the Southern end of Ember Valley.
- Unlike Hunter Largos, which go feral on creation and with high agitation, Saber Largos are only ever feral when they spawn in the wild. This, coupled with their identical default plort prices, means that Sabers may be a good alternative to Hunters. However, their plorts have different uses when it comes to Slime Science gadgets.
- The Saber Gordo requires a total of 50 meat, minus any bonus from including Thundercluck Hens into the process.
Changelog[]
- 0.2.0 - Implemented into the game
Origin[]
Saber Slimes appear to be based off any number of saber-tooth cat species, possibly in particular Smilodon, a well-known but extinct species of carnivore often referred to as the Saber-toothed tiger. Its elongated canines and shape of the Saber Slime's mouth heavily resemble that of a walrus. Its Slimepedia Entry, in particular, the "Jellasic Period", refers to the real-world Jurassic time period of Earth; one of the most widely known time periods of the ancient age due to the presence - and evidence - of dinosaurs. The Plortonomics section in the Slimepedia Entry directly references Jurassic Park.
