They are mainly used for Glass Desert specific Decorations and Fashion Pod Curios, though are also required to build Refinery and Market Link gadgets.

Royal jelly is a rare resource obtained with an apiary.

The royal jelly found in the hives across the Far, Far Range is special as it is unnaturally sweet compared to other varieties. It's believed that this is a result of bees collecting small deposits of slime from honey slimes and working it into their royal jelly mixture. If a rancher is lucky enough to acquire some, they'll find its unique properties are very valuable in certain Slime Science endeavors.

On the Ranch:
Deposit royal jelly into the Lab's refinery where it can be used for crafting Slime Science gadgets.

Royal Jelly is based on real-world Royal Jelly, a substance secreted by worker bees that is fed to larvae to induce development into a queen when the colony's queen dies. The Royal Jelly's Slimepedia tagline - "The king of all jellies... that is, until you meet the queen." - is a reference to two enemies from Nick's previous game Spiral Knights; the Royal Jelly and the Ice Queen. The label on the jar may reference the crown that both bosses wear, and Crowns, the currency of the game.
