Lava Dust is a rare Slime Science Resource obtained with a pump, very rarely from Slime Science Crates, and rarely from the Range Exchange as a 1,000 newbuck trade.
It is primarily used in the construction of Warp Depots.

Neither a solid or a liquid, lava dust seems to be something in between, having the characteristics of both. It is believed to be a mixture of magma and slime, though this has never been proven. And despite its name, lava dust is only warm to the touch.

Lava Dust may be based on volcanic ash, however it resembles magma more than than it does true volcanic ash. Its radiation of warmth and unknown state of matter is reminiscent of plasma. This is supported by the Slimepedia entry - It is believed to be a mixture of magma and slime, though this has never been proven. - since the word for plasma comes from the Ancient Greek πλάσμα, meaning "moldable substance", or "jelly".
