Rayvians

Pictured here are several Rayvians gliding in a seemingly random pattern of motion that does not adhere to any known Rayvian flight pattern.

Rayvians are decorative bird-like creatures found in Ogden's Retreat, The Wilds, The Overgrowth, Spring Archipelago, and several areas of The Moss Blanket. They were added to the game in Update 0.3.5, and went unnamed until their names were confirmed in a tweet by Monomi Park.[1]

Appearance and Behavior[]

Rayvians vaguely resemble beakless birds with white plumage on the tops of their bodies, while underneath they come in a variety of colors; purple, yellow, orange or light blue, and typically fly in a group in a circular pattern. When in The Overgrowth, they continuously fly around The Overgrowth's central platform. They spawn when Ogden's Retreat, The Wilds, The Overgrowth, Spring Archipelago, and several designated spawning locations in The Moss Blanket are loaded, and begin to fade after anywhere from ~5-15 seconds. They do not spawn at night, only from hours 6 to 18. Rayvians cannot be interacted with and do not serve any apparent purpose, solely existing as non-interactive environmental decoration.

Origins[]

Rayvians may be a cross between a ray, and a bird. Their colorful undersides may be based on birds that use bright colors to attract a mate. Flying in groups is typical of bird migration.

Their name, "Rayvian", is a portmanteau of "ray" and "avian", meaning "bird".
