A fiendish stalker of the night, hungering always... for fruit.

— the Slimepedia

The Batty Slime is a slime in Slime Rancher 2.

Slimepedia Entry

Slimeology:

Batty slimes love to lurk cold, dark places, like caves, swooping down from ceilings to scare others with their glowing, red eyes and pointy fangs. Hm? No, they're not vampires. The glowing eyes let them see in the dark is all. They also greatly dislike garlic because they eat fruit. Seriously.

Rancher Risks:

While in darkness, like caves or at night, batty slimes grow hungrier and will eat more often than other slimes. And while they can survive in sunlight the sun's searing rays freak them out a bit, increasing their agitation over time. Again, no, they are not vampires.

Plortonomics:

Batty plorts have significant potential for navigation and sonar tech. Each plort can produce a perfect "ping" for echolocation. Having a supply of these and the right know how could allow you to navigate even the most devious of labyrinths with ease. But then again, how many of use find ourselves needing to do something like that?

Tips

  • The Solar Shield upgrade will stop sunlight from increasing a Batty Slime's agitation, and having the Air Net upgrade on their corrals is necessary to keep them from escaping.
  • Alternatively, one could keep Batty Slimes in The Den, where the cave roof will prevent them from escaping and the darkness will stop them from being agitated.

Origin

Batty Slimes are based on bats. Given its diet of fruit, it may be based on a megabat, a family of fruit-eating bats, most of which are nocturnal.

Its aversion to sunlight, garlic, increased hunger at night, and prominent fangs are traits associated with vampires, which are also commonly associated with bats.
